A reinforced rubber side grip and a ring finger rest ensure long-lasting comfort during the most heated FPS competitions. And the rest of the hardware is custom-tailored for the high-speed actions of a first-person shooter or a real-time strategy game, with an Pixart3360 sensor and 12000 DPI, PBT plastic application, and Omron switches to ensure lag-free, precision input during the longest skirmishes. Add RGB illumination in Three Zones and have the stunning looks match the performance.
With performance, looks and comfort, this is a deadly tool in your gaming arsenal.
I was a diehard Spawn fan, but I needed a replacement since mine was getting old. I thought I might give MM520 a try since it is being labelled as "the Spawn's successor".
What I have experienced is that they are two very different peripherals, in good and in worse:
+ Sensor is considered one the best out there.
+ MM520's software is much better although a bit confusing regarding leds colors.
+ Leds are pretty nice to have although non-essential for me.
- The MM520 is quite a bit longer making it unsuitable for those who use a fingertip grip like me, it is more for a claw kind of grip. It bumps on my palm and my fingers ache after a bit.
- The MM520 has a rough plastic texture with only a small rubber area on the pinky while the Spawn had rubber also on the thumb and on the main 2 buttons. This is a preference from what I read from other reviews, I like rubber a lot more.
- Mouse feet on the MM520 are smaller and less smooth. They started getting scratched in a day and the mouse doesn't glide very well.
- Key travel distance on the MM520 is bigger. Some may like that extra feel, I prefer fast low-travel keys as in the Spawn.
So while being an overall good mouse it didn't satisfy my needs and felt uncomfortable to use.
I couldn't go back to Spawn since they're not produced anymore but I did try the Xonar II a try: I was left mesmerized!
The Xonar II is the true Spawn successor, having the same shape, inheriting all the good points as well as having most of the good points from the MM520.
So if you are a fingertip user or are looking for a Spawn replacement, just grab a Xonar II. Hopefully Cooler Master won't stop producing them.
